Mission #19: Acting Without Hesitation

Let’s face it a New Year’s Resolution doesn’t work, that is, until you ACT on it!!! So unless you are ready to commitment to taking actual steps, don’t waste your time creating one. Sounds unusually harsh for The QoLCRUSADER? Allow me to explain.

On New Year’s Eve in 1997, I was attacked in my apartment by a roommate who proclaimed she was going to kill me! We argued about a table and two chairs that she dragged into her bedroom without asking me. When I questioned her about it, she lunged at me; literally grabbing me by the neck. It was a pure shot of adrenaline that enabled me to pick her up two feet off the floor and literally smash her against the wall. She was in complete shock and so was I. Moments after the incident, the police escorted her out of my space, at her own request.

The psycho was gone. Whew! Unfortunately, the nightmare wasn’t completely over. I was left feeling paranoid, scared, and partly responsible for attracting this kind of negativity into my life. In an instant I decided I was done! Done with a life full of misery, anger, and stress. I deserved to be happy!

Intuitively I knew I needed to focus on relaxing my nerves before anything else. I thought Yoga would help bring some ease. As if my prayer was answered, the very next day I met a woman with a wealth of knowledge and resources on the subject of Yoga. She shared a catalog from The Kripalu Yoga Center in Massachusetts. She spoke highly of their programs and suggested I take a weekend to immerse myself in relaxation and self-care. It was definitely something I wanted to do. I thanked her and told her I would think about going. In an instant, this woman who had been nothing but compassionate and kind to me, morphed into Medusa. With her eyes glaring and her mouth hissing she said, “You’re going to THINK about it?!?!!? You’re wasting your time if you’re going to think about it. If you’re serious about healing, just pick up and go!”

Well that weekend, I packed a bag and headed to Kripalu for the weekend. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. I returned completely relaxed and ready to deal with my issues. But most importantly I learned a valuable lesson. When your heart is telling you to do something, just do it! I’m not talking about when you see a gorgeous pair of shoes and your heart sinks, so you walk into the shop and drop $200 without thinking about it. I’m talking about situations where you have a goal you’ve already thought out, you get the information you need, and you act on it without hesitation.

So, I urge you CRUSADERS to carefully think about what it is you want in your life. Then TAKE THE STEPS to make it happen!

And, with that said… Have a Happy New Year! Wish you a joyous and productive new year.
