June is Pride Month celebrated by our LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) brothers and sisters. There are celebrations taking place in almost every major city in the US. Why not join in the fun?
Ok, we shouldn’t need a special month to acknowledge the existence of those who share the air we breathe. But I do believe it serves as an important reminder, in the event that we’ve forgotten. A powerful way to get more comfortable with folks other than like ourselves is to… well, get more comfortable. In other words, we’ve got to mix, mingle, and experience another culture if we want to learn to embrace it. In my opinion, there is nothing more powerful than shared laughter and tears to help end fears and form bonds among people of differing backgrounds.
Hip Hop Mogul, Jay-Z said during his Master Class on Oprah, “when people party together, they have a good time. Conversation naturally happens and you realize that you actually have more in common.”
With that said, I encourage you to make the effort, step out of your comfort zone and engage with PRIDE!
